Rod:
Look at Arlene Fink and Jacqueline Kosecoff's _How to Conduct
Surveys_ 1998 Sage Publications, as a short, friendly paperback on
survey development in general. It's excellent on reviewing different
types of question formats (open closed, numeric, graphic, etc) how to
organize data, and so forth. But, it's very brief on summated scales (a
series of similiar statements agreed or disagreed with are summated to
yield an overall score on the underlying attitude) commonly used for
attitude surveys. Summated scales can be complex to design and
interpret. In fact, Fink & Kosecoff say to leave these scales to the
"experts." But if she wants a survey with a simple format, this is an OK
book.

Subject: how to develop attitudinal questionnaires
Hi TIPSters:
Does anyone have any recommendations for a user-friendly text that
discusses the process of developing attitudinal questionnaires. A
student in my Tests and Measurements class would like to develop one for
her project and our text provides limited coverage. I remember that I
used a text in a graduate-level measurement class that took the reader
step-by-step through the process of developing attitudinal surveys. It
was a small book with a red cover, but that is all I remember. Can
anyone help me out?!?!?
Rod
