For those of you who participated in the thread on the accuracy of "A
Beautiful Mind" almost a year ago on TIPS, I highly recommend viewing the
DVD of the movie with the Director's commentary. Ron Howard provides all
kinds of details about what was from the actual story and what the
writers, director and actors added (and their purpose for doing so). As
has been pointed out, the alleged visual hallucinations were simply a
means to tell the story in a visual medium. He also clarifies that the one
statement in the movie where Nash says that he got some benefit from more
recent medications was added (although Nash has stayed off medication)
because it was thought that it would be irresponsible to encourage those
watching to movies to try to go off of their medication. There are also
all kinds of other interesting tidbits.
