Thanks for the recommendation, Rick.  Another great DVD commentary can
be found on the expanded version of the Lord of the Rings.  There are a
couple of commentaries on Disk 3 or 4 that talk about the special
effects in the movie.  The commentary entitled "Grading" would be
particularly appropriate for a discussion on visual perception.  The
special effects people talk about the various techniques they used to
create the illusions of hobbits and dwarves being so much smaller than
elves and humans.  This is really interesting when one considers that
the tallest actor in the ensemble (John Rys-Davies) played one of the
smallest characters (Gimli the Dwarf).  The commentary on the Weta
Workshop is also fascinating.  These commentaries should really hold
your students' attention.  Rod
