Hi, Rod.

It is my understanding that since sports psychologists actually do counsel
clients, that the preferred career path is to obtain clinical licensure
first, then specialize. There is an APA Division for Sports Psychology, Div
47, and they have a lot of info at
http://www.psyc.unt.edu/apadiv47/about_becomingsportpsych.html

Best regards,

Subject: sports psychology training

I have a student interested who is interested in pursuing a career as a
sports psychologist. What is the typical graduate training for students
interested in this area? Are there specific masters or doctoral programs
focusing in sports psychology? Or are there simply sports psychology
concentrations in clinical psychology programs?

Rod
