On further examination, the correct answer always seems to be a multiple of 9 from 9 to 81. Note that all of these numbers (9, 18, 27, 36, 45.....81) always have the same symbols. Here is why it works this way - lets start with 40. 40 - (4+0) = 36; 41 - (4+1) = 36; 42-(4+2) = 36...etc for all numbers from 40 to 59.... for numbers from 50 - 59, it always comes out at 45, atc.
