In response to Jim's question about methodology of the Robert Spitzer survey . . .
After Spitzer's study was presented and massively publicized, we had some correspondence, which included his graciously providing me with a copy of his presentation (which actually left a quite different impression than did the media hype). Shortly thereafter (and in response to queries I was receiving) I posed a synopsis and some reflections at http://davidmyers.org/sexorient/Spitzer.html To clarify his own view, Dr. Spitzer later wrote in an essay for the Wall Street Journal (May 23, 2001) that To my horror, some of the media reported the study as an attempt to show that homosexuality is a choice, and that substantial change is possible for any homosexual who decides to make the effort. . . . In fact, I suspect the vast majority of gay people would be unable to alter by much a firmly established homosexual orientation.
