A story in today's New York Times about cheating features a photo of a water
bottle with the inside of the label used for a cheat sheet. Very ingenious.
One more thing we have to start watching out for, in addition to the bottom
of a baseball cap's bill. Of course, those are almost old-fashioned
compared to calculators programmed with notes and electronic messages
exchanged with a student outside the classroom. But the two final
comments - that adults turn a blind eye to cheating and don't want to do
anything about it, and that the best way to change the behavior is to make
cheating socially unacceptable, may be as old-fashioned as writing notes on
the palm of your hand.
