Riki,   A summary of the video Prisoners of Silence can be found at     http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/programs/info/1202.html   A transcript of the video can be found at     http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/programs/transcripts/1202.html   But neither of these do justice to how remarkably well this program illustrates the power of the experimental method and how well it illustrates the value of structured observations over unstructured observations.  It also captures confirmation bias and other processes that make it easy for us to buy into something uncritically.  I had a colleague from another department come into our area once and say, "What is it with you psychologists, why do you have to test everything?  Aren't some things just obvious?"  Watch this video and you will know why we test things.   Jon   =============== Jon Mueller Professor of Psychology North Central College 30 N.
