Yes, the first day of class I tell them that they can call me Dr. Taylor, 
Professor Taylor, or, the way I sign my emails to students, dr t.

I tell them that my mother in law was Mrs. Taylor. But they persist. I think 
they are just more comfortable with the Mrs./Mr. titles from high school.
