In my experience with "withdrawal" after the use of antidepressants, it has usually been when the patient decided to discontinue the medication and stops taking it "cold turkey." Just as it takes some time (it is now thought that for some people it may be up to 3 months) to take effect, it also takes time to titrate the patient off of the medication.
