Title: Re: Suicide / Antidepressant
Addendum,

I would also like to add that in regard to the message that I criticized, Dr. Thomas AM Kramer claimed no drug company connections, even though he clearly has many and has disclosed them in other venues when he has been forced to do so. These kinds of messages, such as the one that was dropped into our group to which I responded, are messages of public opinion control. Within this category, it seems, authors need not  make any disclosure if they are not reporting their own research. I would describe them as very transparently being drug company propoganda. As I mentioned in my original response, I would not be surprised if that particular message was ghost written by a pharmaceutical representative. I think this is especially likely given Dr. Kramer's more balanced (yet still pro-drug company) articles such as the one quoted by Allen Esterson. Regardless of Dr. Kramer's motives or authorship, "his" arguments in the posting to which I responded are open to both logical and empirical refutation. No one here has argued against my actual refutations which are much more important.

Okay, Allen, you make me do my homework.
Regarding the issues below, this is from Medscape: Go to one of Thomas AM
Kramer's CME articles at medscape such as:
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/420839

Then click on "disclosures" at the top of the page. You will find the
following.

Disclosure: Thomas Kramer, MD, has disclosed that he receives funding for
clinical grants from Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Abbott, and Janssen. He holds
consulting agreements with Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Glaxo, and Wyeth-Ayerst.
.
Now I am no longer just highly suspicious that he is well funded by the drug
companies, I "am sure".

Bill--
The real challenge would be to find a pharmacologist (psych or otherwise) who has not (at least indirectly) received some form of support from the big pharm.
