One of our faculty checked the available systems including ExperimenTrack.  He finally negotiated an affordable deal with Sona-Systems.com for their software.  After a semester of use, it seems to be a complete success for us.  Last summer, I used ExperimenTrack at UC Santa Cruz--again no problems from my instructor's perspective.  For us (at Humboldt State), the problem is not which system to use--rather the problem is how to get students to show up for their scheduled research experience.  We have had about 20% no-shows, and that includes an e-mail reminder the day before.  Next semester when a student fails to show up without notifying us, the system will add time to the required research credits equal to the time that was missed.  Maybe that will help.  Personally, I think the problem is that too many of our students write their appointments on their hands.  Then they take a shower and they've effectively lost their datebook.
