Hi all,

In reference to what a Department of Psychology can name itself in order to emphasize it's scientific approach to the study of mind and behavior, I say, "just give up." Roll over, expose your belly, and let them rip it out if they wish (please don't ask me who "they" are: "they" know who "they" are).

How about just calling it: "Department of the Psychologies"? Why? It seems to me that psychology is kinda like art: if someone thinks it's psychology, then it is. That, at least, seems to be the opinion of most Americans. And the more mysterious and untestable the claim, the more it fits the lay conception of psychology.

So, call it the Department of the Psychologies, and create a number of divisions, from the Transpersonal Division to the Cognitive Neuroscience Division. And make sure that you have frequent departmental meetings. Bring popcorn.
