In my syllabus I tell students 3 hours per credit hour, so approximately an
average of 9 hours per week of homework. I think any of them seldom
really need
to do quite that much work, but that's what I tell them.

You should have asked us how many hours of unpaid work we have done
on all of these assignments? 36 assignments at about 1.5 hours a
piece equal 54 hours of work, not including the final or this
assignment. That is a lot of hours for a 3 credit class! So I
figure we did a lot of work in this class! I think 54+ hours
deserves an A especially at 3:34am in the morning!
So am I laboring under a misconception that students are expected to
put in a couple of hours work for each class?
