In the Psychology Department at SUNY Oswego all the evaluation information belongs to the faculty member. However, they are expected to include it in their evaluation folders when they are requesting merit raises, contract renewal (prior to tenure) and promotion. Summaries are put in the evaluation folders and additional material (student comments) in the support folder. Each department has its own policy

The written comments are viewed as performance appraisal information for evaluation of teaching and are available to members of the personnel committee and the department chair (and presumably to those higher up in the administrative food chain). Our written comments are made on the same form as the numerical ratings, so putting the information into separate packets would not be doable for us. Policies on this are likely to vary from university to university though as most things with course evaluations tend to vary from university to university as well... for example, here each department is responsible for course evaluations within the department, but I know at some other universities a center on campus are often responsible for a campus-wide course evaluation... - Marc At 03:29 PM 4/4/2006, you wrote: >Is it my understanding that whereas the chairperson may review the >statistics on the individualized items on teacher evaluation >forms, comments by students should be placed in a separate packet and >could only be viewed by the the appropriate instructor? ============================================= G.
