Hi Jodi,      Your student will certainly want to discuss John Calhoun’s classic study of overpopulating mice/rats.  Calhoun’s original study was published in Scientific American.  John B Calhoun, "Population Density and Social Pathology." 1962. “Scientific American 206:139-148. If this is difficult to locate, an Internet search should bring up some descriptions of the study.  He will then want to find out if Calhoun’s findings have been reliably generalized to humans.      Other tipsters may have more current studies to suggest.
