Hi Jodi,

Your student will certainly want to discuss John Calhoun’s classic study of overpopulating mice/rats.  Calhoun’s original study was published in Scientific AmericanJohn B Calhoun, "Population Density and Social Pathology." 1962. “Scientific American 206:139-148. If this is difficult to locate, an Internet search should bring up some descriptions of the study.  He will then want to find out if Calhoun’s findings have been reliably generalized to humans.

Other tipsters may have more current studies to suggest.

Best wishes, Laura

A student of mine is trying to pull together his final research paper on a possible connection between overpopulation and psychological disorders. He's looking at overpopulation as either a contributing or a causal factor. Are any of y'all acquainted with literature he could access via internet or our local college (trying to help him limit time spent on research)?

Thanks

Jodi
