This is true. However, because of most males' subjective
experience and men's intuition, it should come as no surprise
that most men will engage in the "I Knew It All Along" effect
aka the hindsight bias/heuristic. As you point out, there are
probably aspects of this phenomenon that are subtle and not
immediately obvious even though most men will admit to feeling
that the result is compellingly and overwhelmingly clear. But to
provide at least one source of observations relevant to this
point (if one allows some "qualitative" research), I suggest
reading the writings of that great social philosopher Lenny Bruce,
specifically, "The Essential Lenny Bruce" (see:

or

Most directly relevant to the current discussion are the sections
on:

(1) what to expect from a man who just had a leg cut off
in an accident and who is being treated by a sexy female nurse,

(2) men and, when sufficiently desperate, mud, and

(3) men and, when sufficiently desperate and open to new
experiences, chickens (or was it ducks?).

Given the difficulty of finding the above volume one might read
the following easier to obtain volume to get a sense of Bruce's
thoughts: "How to Talk Dirty and Influence People" (see:

or

>Seems like there is value in the exercise of documenting with evidence ;)

Well, though most men would claim that this finding has a probability
approaching that of seeing the sun rise in the east, I can understand how
a woman might maintain some skepticism about it. However, a finding
that I think that most men would be somewhat skeptical about but
which many women *might* intuitively agree with is presented here:

I think that many men will be surprised to find women so, er,
"brainy". ;-) And the article is from the journal "Brain Research". ;-)
