I hope I’ll be allowed beyond my quota to make a correction to my previous
message in this thread. I implicitly misquoted Paul when I wrote:

"The idea that a meta-analysis published in 1998 of studies of the
efficacy of antidepressants is 'old news' is an interesting notion, but
hardly one to be taken seriously."

In fact Paul wrote that *critiques* of the Kirsch & Saperstein 1998
meta-analysis are "old news", which, given that they contend that Kirsch
et al's methodological procedures are fundamentally flawed, can hardly
dismissed as old hat. So my verdict on this point in my previous message
still holds.
