On 1 January 2006 Paul Brandon responded to this:
>>Btw,in my early days years I used to play the bells of Rhymney on the
>>guitar(I think it is Welsh)

as follows:

>Properly a 12-string. It need not be Welsh.

>Written by Idris Davies (Welsh) and Pete Seeger.
>The names are Welsh -- it's based on an old Welsh nursery rhyme
>(Oranges and lemons say the bells of St. Clements).

It's highly unlikely that the nursery rhyme is Welsh as all the churches
are in London:

ORANGES and lemons,
Said the Bells of St. Clement's.
 You owe me five farthings,
Said the Bells of St. Martin's.
 When will you pay me?
Said the Bells of Old Bailey.
 When I grow rich,
 Said the Bells of Shoreditch.
 When will that be?
 Said the Bells of Stepney.
 I do not know,
Said the great Bell at Bow.
Here comes a candle to light you to bed,
And here comes a chopper to chop off your head.

What the last two lines are doing there is anybody's guess!
