In one of my online courses, we're discussing this issue. (The thread began
just yesterday, so I thought we were quite prescient when I saw the front page
article in the New York Times, and I posted that link for the students'
edification.) I asked for a count of how many would like to know, and how many
would not like to know. So far, the "would nots" are in the majority. (Does
my own "would" vote weigh more heavily? Probably not.) The thread ends at
midnight tonight, so I think I'll post the percentage for TIPS, just in case
anyone is interested.

I recall when I first learned that folks could learn if they carried this
gene and wondered why any person would even hesitate to learn. Well,
that's youth for you as now I know if I could be a carrier, I would never
want to know, with all the negative repercussions that could create, I
  realize.
