But isn't it true of the early Alzheimer patient? Of the ones I've known, and there were not many, they seemed to go quietly although they may have acted-out when they were quite ill. Didn't Reagan know of his fate based on his "farewell address?" Wasn't that somewhat of an issue in the fictional movie "Charlie" from the book "Flowers for Algernon?" Is there an increase in suicides of early Alzheimer patients? Could that explain, at least in part, why there is a higher suicide rate of aged?

(The thread began just yesterday, so I thought we were quite prescient when I saw the front page article in the New York Times, and I posted that link for the students' edification.) I asked for a count of how many would like to know, and how many would not like to know. So far, the "would nots" are in the majority. (Does my own "would" vote weigh more heavily? Probably not.) The thread ends at midnight tonight, so I think I'll post the percentage for TIPS, just in case anyone is interested. Well, that's youth for you as now I know if I could be a carrier, I would never want to know, with all the negative repercussions that could create, I realize.
