Who are Marlin, Marx, Green, Kausler, "and so on"?
Perhaps "distinguished" is in the eye of the student.

Anders Ericsson (Florida State) is a world authority on expertise
(featured in a recent NY Times magazine article on expertise).

William H. Rushton (actually a molecular biologist with strong ties to
psychology) was known for his work on anomalous color vision. He
actually held simultaneous university appointments at Florida State,
Cambridge (England), and a university in Australia (the name of which
I've forgotten).

David Green (of Green & Swets Signal Detection Theory) retired recently
from the University of Florida (although his major work on SDT was
carried out while he was at Michigan).

Doug Bernstein (organizer of NITOP and known for his intro psych text)
is at USF.

I'm sure there are others that would be revealed by a perusal of
departmental web sites. But this requires that one know the area of
expertise and the impact of each individual's contributions to that
area. That is a homework exercise for you, Michael.
