Although enrollment in US science and engineering schools is up,
enrollment in them BY AMERICANS is down. Apparently the US population,
notoriously disinterested in (or even hostile to) science, is happy to
train the eager foreigners who will ultimately make the US a scientific
backwater. I wonder how long it will be before members of a certain
political party start calling for the closing of US science schools to
foreign students -- which will of course, have the added "bonus" of
shrinking them in size and influence as well -- in order to end this
"insidious plot" to undermine US "security"? :-)
