Hi Bill: I'm not sure I understand the question. I thought that taking a sabbatical implied that one returned immediately to one's institution--it is a finite period that one can go away, usually one semester at full pay or one year at half pay. Lots of people take the full year and pick up teaching a class or two at whatever institution they are spending time during the sabbatical.
I have no input for the second question. never thought about it.....yet.
