Correction! One of those silly errors to which I find myself prone crept
into my last posting. I meant post World War 1, of course, not post World
War 2, as my reference to the Weimar republic indicates.

So the sentence in question should have read:

In the interests of historical accuracy, Lorenz and von Frisch did their
early work post World War 1, when Germany was a republic (Weimar), and
leadership was not determined by heredity.
