I totally agree that Piaget and Erikson had culturally based conclusions
but I honestly don't believe the same can be said about Ainsworth's work
that empirically revealed that babies that are picked up consistently cry
less.  And what parent wouldn't want that, for heavens sakes?  Just BTW,
I'll never forget having a counselor come into my child psychology class
and note that certain cultures believe that whipping a toddler with a
hanger is acceptable?!  Sorry, but we should have some standard agreements
on what is and what is not effective and positive parenting.  Good
parenting is not a relativistic question--though I fully realize I'm
confronting a strong political correctness issue here.
