"Have Tips become a whining group?"
Michael- I do agree with your point that psychiatrists are medically trained
so likely to be influenced by their "education". But I think Chris' point
was that APA claims to be an independent and "scientifically objective"
group. To the extent that much of their funding is from the pharmaceutical
industry which the APA purports to provide objective evaluation toward, then
there is a likely compromised objectivity.
I tend to agree that expecting psychiatrists to be "objective" is
problematic as a perusal of their journal offerings will likely result in
skepticism of their grasp of scientific research practice (yes, there are
exceptions but the norm is rather poor as there are obvious examples of
psychology research that is poor I think the norm is better though not as
good as one would prefer).

I view psychiatry as an applied science based on the biological
perspective.Of course there are other perspectives in psychology which are
just as valid. But clients may want treatment and and attribute their
progrees to simple medication even though placebo effects interactions
should not be ruled out
A PhD psychologist could be more knowledgeable about the priniples of
behavior but clients may noy be interested in talk.
Didn't Eysenck( the German dude turned British) wrote about the
ineffectiveness of psychotherapy.
Let psychiatrists do prescriptions and leave the talking to us.
