Joan- Thanks for assuming I was being diplomatic! Well, I did mean to be but 
was also a little sloppy (I'd just completed a 2-hour bicycle ride- just an 
excuse though). :) I meant to say "clinical psychological research" when I 
wrote it. Surely I could be diplomatic and say that *all* psychological 
research should be better. But I would agree with your assessment that the 
majority of research in the experimental areas is much stronger!! Of course, 
one should note that some of the same distinctions could be drawn within areas 
of psychiatry and medicine also but the quality lines fall quite differently 
across the two spectra - I also suspect we've only seen the tip of the ice-berg 
when it comes to conflicts of interest within psychiatric research as is 
pointed out by yours and Chris' emails.

(Chris- thanks for bringing that information to our attention. It will be a 
very useful point when teaching Intro to psychopharmacology!)
