American national mythology holds that the United States was "originally" populated mostly by immigrants from Great Britain. But historians often point out that the plurality language at the time of the Revolution was actually German. It turns out that Americans are *still* mostly German. Here's a map of the entire nation giving the largest ethnic ancestry in each county. The pale blue is German.
