Regarding Julie's questions about a Master's in Experimental Psyc:

1. When I was admitted into my doc program, I chose to get my MA in Exper Psyc
along the way 1) as insurance in case some unforeseen event prevented me from
completing the PhD in a timely manner and 2) so I could begin marketing myself
as having documentable graduate work (adjunct teaching, conference submissions,
grant proposals, etc.).

2. I agree with Ron that future demand will likely remain high. Chris'
comments also apply here. Organizations may not be able to afford a PhD-level
candidate, yet still want individuals with more than an undergraduate degree.

3. Two specific job areas that come to mind are Community College faculty
(full- or part-time) and Program Evaluation. P.E in Education and Health
fields are booming with all of the accountability requirements, yet program
personnel in those areas may not have the skills/desire to perform the
evaluations. Of course, there are other job options, but I assumed that Julie
was asking about supervisory positions as opposed to subordinate positions.

4. I would think most programs would be open to an applicant with the Master's
degree, and would depend more on the individual's goals and what specific
training/experience they obtained in the Master's program (e.g., evaluation,
extensive statistics coursework, internships)

5. Perhaps those departments who offer this degree can share their program
objectives and the employment settings of their graduates.

Julie, if you have any other questions or would like information about my grad
program, feel free to contact me off-list.

Julie
