Proactive and retroactive are terms used in the interference theory of forgetting.Apparently it has been pulled to explain why items at a middle of a list are difficult to be recalled because of this double whammy of proactive (primacy factors) and retroactive (recency factors) inhibition.I can understand why items at the beginning and at the end of a list are more likely to be recalled, but there must be other reasons for the difficulty uf the recall of the middle items.
