As it turns out, APA's magazine "gradPSYCH" came in the mail
today (I am perpetually confounded as to why I receive this;
though I am an APA member it has been a long time since I
was a grad student) and there is an article by Tori DeAngelis
entitled "Information Gold Mines" which covers several publicly
available databases that can be used for secondary analyses.
This article can be accessed online at the APA website at:

http://gradpsych.apags.org/2008/09/databases.html

Among the websites listed are the US Census Bureau,
the Substance Abuse and Menatal Health Data Archive
(SAMHDA), the clinical trials network, the NICHD
Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development,
CHILDES, and some more neuroscience oriented websites.
