There's an new and impressive report of recovery after functional 
hemispherectomy in a child. Functional, I gather, because not all of the 
hemisphere was removed, but all of its neuronal connections to other 
parts of the brain were severed.

The recovery is especially impressive because it was the left hemisphere 
that was isolated.
