Hi

Lots of food for thought ... one possibility would be to ask the instructor
with the problematic grade if he or she is confident enough in that grade to
stop the student from graduating. It seems to me that any adjusting needs to
be with that course grade, and that should be under the control of the
instructor rather than a university committee (although here and presumably at
other places, departmental and senate committees can over-ride our grades). At
least I would start with that instructor.

Good luck
Jim

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies (and your kind words, Joan). As you
probably, and correctly, assumed, I am very torn about this one. Nothing is
ever clear cut and I will continue to consider all that you have said. Each of
you who has taken time to answer has provided me with food for thought. I
appreciate your rationales and will continue to consider all of them. I don't
know how this will turn out, maybe it will be easier than I suspect, maybe not.
But again, thank you all for your responses.

Carol
