Just a little irony I ran across in the history of the complicated set of relations between religion and slavery: The man who guided through the British Parliament the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 was the evangelical Christian, William Wilberforce, father to Samuel Wilberforce, who would famously debate evolution with Thomas Henry Huxley at Oxford in 1860. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Wilberforce
