I find that, in many cases, you can make fairly accurate judgments by reading what a person says about himself or herself. I can tell you that, according to his website, he is a "foremost authority on child development". PsycINFO may not agree. He is cited as being the third author on one publication in 1989 that was cited once in the PsycINFO database.
Probably the best summary of his work is provided by the final paragraph on his home page: "Dr. Neufeld's unique synthesis of the developmental literature and his exceptional ability to make children understandable has made him much in demand as a speaker. His style is dynamic, his approach is refreshing, and his effect is to affirm intuition. His insights are regularly sought by experts and media alike, and he appears regularly on radio and television. Dr. Neufeld consistently receives outstanding ratings for his courses and seminars." I especially like the phrase, "his effect is to affirm intuition". I have never heard it put quite so concisely or positively. He is presently in my town giving a week-long workshop entitled: Making Sense of Kids. Although I am not attending the workshop, my partner (who is a teacher in primary school) is. She is loving it. The entire workshop is revolving around attachment issues and how society is moving in a direction that does not foster proper attachment between kids and their parents. I have looked at the workshop document and it looks good, but it does not have references. Instead, Dr. Neufeld states that the work he presents is the accumulation of his research, clinical, and life experiences. I was wondering if anyone on this list has knowledge of his work, and whether you would like to comment on the validity of what he presents. As I said, his stuff makes a lot of sense, thus has much face value. I am wondering about what the scientific community is thinking. My understanding is that he is essentially trying to bring a paradigm shift in how we raise children. Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers all!
