Michael-
They aren't referring to any stats. At least the reports I heard didn't mention
any at all except listing the recent stories. They just stated that these
killings had increased and then, in their own minds, made a correlation - since
both are happening now. But I haven't seen any credible evidence that there has
been any increase- except in journalists looking to blame pretty much anything
on the economy- hey, that's it! There has been an increase in bad journalism -
it's been caused by the financial hard times which has weighed heavily on their
journalistic integrity. Yeah- that the ticket! Michael- I think you are correct
that they don't have any data and are just looking for a story. Bad times, must
be a bad story. But I'm not expecting any such thing. What about the guy who
won the lottery and donated it to charity? I could name any of a 100 other such
good things- all have happened since the recession- it just isn't a good fit to
"if it bleeds it leads" or other such journalistic (?) rules of thumb.

Subject: [tips] Super bowl Sunday/Today

Tipsters have buried the idea that domestic violence peaks on Superbowl Sunday.
But the recent killings in a variety of situations are being commented upon as
due to the recession.Inquisitive minds appear to be looking for the "job
loss" and "anticipatory job loss" excuses and many are jumping on the
recession bandwagon for explanations. Is there supportive evidence to conclude
that there is a markedly increase in crime nowadays ? And should we expect a
resurgence of Dillinger,Bugsy Siegal,Ma Baker, and Bonnie and Clyde characters?
What's your read on recent crime stats?
