Michael- I did my defense at 1300 hours on Friday, July 13th. More out
of the humor than any belief I was getting away with anything. In all
honesty, I find the idea that one should do their comprehensives etc. at
a weak moment for their mentors to be somewhat antithetical to the whole
idea of why I went to graduate school. I was nervous about the process
and my performance but found it to be educational and rewarding. Maybe
I'm weird that way. I did get asked one question in my dissertation
defense that I could not answer but I just said that and we moved on.

BTW- wasn't your last sentence a bit ironic?

Subject: [tips] Is there a Friday effect?

Back in my grad school days at Wichita State and Mizzou, some of my
colleagues were of the opinion that grad students should schedule
comprehensives, theses and dissertation defenses on Fridays because
committee members were most likely to be in a hurry to go home .One grad
told me that his oral comprehensives and dissertation lasted less than
fifteen minutes. He scheduled both on Fridays before major holidays.

I have heard other tales such as scheduling in the late afternoons but
never on Mondays or early morning.

So is there a Friday effect? Maybe some Tipsters can post their
experiences.

And Paul and Mike P,please no ad hominem attacks
