Dear Tipsters,
Thanks to Chris for his corrections. May I add that the Milgram himself compared men and women and studies have also replicated his findings in Germany and in the Middle East - 'way back in the 70s. Sincerely, Stuart Michael has apparently confused "creative" and "divergent" with "wrong." The Milgram study was replicated (with minorities and women) two years ago. The results were essentially the same. This matter has been discussed in this forum several times already. The replication, by Jerry Burger of UC Santa Clara, was published early this year in American Psychologist. The abstract is here: http://tinyurl.com/oul9mu . You will have to depend on your own access to the journal to read the whole article. Regards, Chris -- Christopher D. Subjects were paid. The real issues were the reasons given for shocking which were confounded by his presence. A replication through re-enactment by baldie Rosenhahn (the same dude who got himself locked up in a psychiatric institution) demonstrated that excuses given for shocking were correlated with stages of moral development. There has been no replication of Milgram. Daniel Ellsberg of the Pentagon papers tried to see similarities between the Milgram study and the massacre at My Lai in Vietnam. And sibce I am the only creative and divergent thinker on Tips,I wonder what would the results be if the sreams were that of confederates being tortured by water boarding.
