<snip ..> (2) Just a personal peeve: I'm not a modesty fascist but what is it with women who wear tops that show off their breasts or cleavege at a FUNERAL or a wake? Yes, Lori only had a yadda-yadda-yadda. Please. At the Michael Jackson memorial/tribute, I kept wondering what was Mariah Carey thinking with that dress which revealed both her cleavege and that she wasn't wearing a bra. Just being a guy, I have to admit to being distracted by her outfit and wondering whether we would experience a wardrobe malfunction. <snip> Since all my thinking these days is evolutionary, a simple but hopefully not flip reply: the answer is in the fact that it succeeded in catching your attention. Women are women and men are men no matter where they are, we cannot turn off our biological selves easily. Though I agree, if one is a close relative of the deceased it is usually toned down - but rarely totally. Though we can also make a case for modesty in the dating rituals too. In conservative russian orthodox churches women cover their heads in church - shawls or bandanas or babushkas depending on their age. I once accompanied a women to an easter service who wore proper head attire and a very low cut dress, and she spent quite a bit of time in the mirror finding the right balance. And yes, she attracted attention, and yes, I was distracted too. -------------------------- John W.
