I realize most of these have a sardonic humor underlying them but if these 
various lists can be given any historical credence, I learned one thing: the 
concept of adolescence is not, as we have been told, a pure invention of the 
industrial age. Adolescence Psych text books often make it seem as if 
adolescence is an age of life that didn't exist until, for various reasons 
including the abuse of child workers and unions resistance to having wages 
undercut by younger workers and the rise of professionalism conspired to keep 
children in school for at least twelve years and often until the end of college.
