I have two questions from my human sexuality class.
1. We talked in class about sperm not being harmful to swallow. One
students said she had heard that it might actually be beneficial - she
could not remember it what way it might be beneficial. So do you guys
know?
2.It doesn't seem to make much sense from an evolutionary perspective
that the greatest amount of nerve endings are concentrated in the
clitoris as opposed to the vaginal walls. If you want to use sexual
pleasure as a handy tool to make people motivated to procreate why not
make intercourse the most directly pleasurable activity? (the clitoris
is obviously indirectly stimulated during intercourse but in surveys
women report more intense pleasure from clitoral stimulation and
it is the preferred method when women masturbate.) I understand the
structural constraint of all fetuses being female and the clitoris then
developing into a penis in boys. But that does not explain why over
time women who had lots of vaginal nerve endings were not evolutionarily
favored (we know that female orgasms increase likelihood of fertility).
Of course it is possible that evolution cannot help with this one or
maybe that female orgasm is relatively unimportant in the scheme of
things.
