Hi all..
While grading papers I caught the fact that two students in the same class
had VERY similar essays (mine are take home essays) and that on their
scantron (in-class multiple choice items) they had marked all items the same
with the exception of one (which was initially marked
the same as the other student's scantron).
I don't mind if students banter about the essay, but I do object to
students turning in work that is nearly identical to another's. I don't
remember if the two sit close to one another; will find that out Monday.
I'm not quite sure how to handle this since I monitor classes carefully (or
thought so) and didn't see any behaviors suggestive of cheating. How should
I handle this? Any recommendations would be appreciated. This is the first
time this has happened in six years of teaching and I'm in a quandry.
