Beth has a good point. As for me, what I should have said was that
checking the membership list would settle the matter if it turns out
that she is a member after all. If she's not, well, it could be
because she saw the light and joined APS instead.
On the other hand, Beth, why _were_ you kicked out of the APA? :-)
On still another hand, Jean Edwards did provide a reference of sorts
for the allegation (it was in one of "Coon's earlier texts"). That
doesn't sound like the _National Enquirer_ to me, and textbook
publishers are touchy about printing stuff (even in old editions) that
might get them sued. So I think we're at least one step up from
gossip. Even if we can't dig up poor Descartes again, perhaps Jean
could dig up the original passage from Coons so we could have a closer
look at exactly what Coons said and why.
(I've gotta admit I don't really care one way or the other about the
activities of Dr. Brothers, but the issue of verification itself is
interesting.)
