I have no idea whether or not these are appropriate for HS AP students, but
let me make some suggestions (if nothing else, it's always fun to think up
such a list...).

Elliot Aronson's "The Social Animal"
Daniel ("David") Dennett's "Consciousness Explained"
Freud's "Civilization and Its Discontents" (particularly appropriate this
year)
Judith Rich Harris' "The Nurture Assumption"
David Myers' "The Pursuit of Happiness"
Skinner's "Science and Human Behavior"

        And what about the "Annual Editions" published by Dushkin/McGraw-Hill? You
get a lot of content in relatively few pages.
