The human brain: a guided tour., Susan Greenfield, Basic books, 1997. very readable and fairly accurate, for non-scientists.

The logic of Failure: Reocgnizing and avoiding error in complex situations. Dietrich Dorner Perseus books, 1998. Highly readable and demonstrates the principles of good simulation research, archival analysis, and other psychological research.
