Rod,
I have recently adopted Rod Plotnik's Introduction to Psychology
5th Edition. I feel as though it is an excellent book for undergraduates,
especially freshman. I have had many positive comments from students about
the readability of the book.
Each chapter has a section on Cultural Diversity in psychology
based on what area the chapter is covering. Also, at the end of each
chapter, there is a section on critical thinking; there is usually some
topic or article covered and then a set of critical thinking questions.
Since the book is in its 5th edition all of the information is
very current, which my students seemed to really enjoy also. They could
put real life examples to what we were learning.
The study guide that accompanies the text is very helpful for
group discussions and class activities. I have used many of the study
guides for out-of-class assignments and extra credit.
The text bank is helpful also with questions ranging from easy to
difficult. The questions are also broken down into Factual and Applied. My
students seem to do well with the Applied questions.
Well, there you have it. I hope that helps some.
