Miguel is absolutely correct. I can't catch them coming in, but I can
catch them in intro psych and lower division courses and I can ask my
colleagues here to work with me on it.

As a consequence of all this I will be much more assertive in making
sure, in the future, that _ALL_ the students who come my way know the
distinctions between quotation, paraphrase and citation formats for
primary and secondary sources (that was another problem that came up).
I am also going to adopt the formula others on the list, and after talking
about this with colleagues, in my department, use of limiting the number
of quotations allowed.

I am going to download and pass out Paul Smith's handout in all my
classes--I have been doing so, with Paul's permission, in my lower
division classes but 'ASSUMED' (the old made an ass out of u and me)
that the upper division folks knew how to do things. And I will test
them over it!

Ownership of ideas and words is VERY important--not just in our discipline
as my own aside here: my 11-year old last month won a writing contest in
which the task was to create a super hero. He is learning how to
copyright his character! at 11 years old! so it is not just our
discipline, but even common everyday ideas really have 'ownership'!

I'm really going for my coffee now!
