Can anyone else see how this argument has sunken to new levels. What
was at one time perhaps an intellectual exercise has now become a
discussion in which people are feeling frustrated, misunderstood, and
invalidated.

I personally am appalled by some of the comments made by people on the
"side of science". Case in point is Sylevester's post: What is the
point of mentioning that those who favor the religion side are from the
Bible Belt? I am a scientist, but I am also deeply religious. Most of
the important things in my life occur with my faith and within my
church. As far as God valuing intellectual honesty and how we have not
been given us any evidence: I see evidence on a daily basis for the
existence of God, even though I haven't done any empirically-based
studies.

Bottom line: Science and religion are both ways of knowing. Both have
advantages and disadvantages in this respect.

For the science folks, let's have a little more respect for those with
religious beliefs and a bit more sensitivity about not invalidating
others beliefs (i.e., "Just because you have an opinion, doesn't mean
that everyone needs to hear it."). For the religious folks, we could
take the same advice and recognize that science can provide different
types of answers than religion.

I'm not sure how we split into two groups. I consider myself a
scientist as well as a man of faith and see both as useful and valid.
I just am sensitive when others tell me how inadequate religion/faith
is.

Maybe we can move on to a new topic....
