Don't know about the rest of you, but in our paper recently was an article
on the "Best state to raise your child". The states were ranked with Maine
being first and Washington DC being last. The interesting component was
what they used to rank these states. The finding are based on:
child abuse and neglect
lack on immunization by age 2
child poverty
child death rate
infant mortality
prenatal care in the first trimester
juvenile arrest
teen births
divorce
EXCLUDED THIS YEAR - overall crime rate, drug induced deaths, alcohol
induced death
(this year, Georgia rose from 42 to 28).
Perhaps a better title would be best state to be a child.
